In this pop version of the “Alchemical Polyptychs,” ancient idols are reinterpreted through figures from cinematic imagery. The experience is enriched by augmented reality, which reveals further layers of interpretation and meaning to the works. The compositions are inspired by the religious artistic heritage of Ascoli Piceno.

Triptych of Ambiguities – Oil and phosphorescent pigment on linen, 2017, 120×50 cm

Inspired by a Renaissance tombstone, it invites us to discern certain ambiguous and manipulated realities. We know that the stories of these characters—Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Snow White—all have happy endings, but this isn’t actually present in the original versions.

Polyptych of Worries – Oil on board, 2018, 160×160 cm

Sometimes the line between fantasy and reality is very thin, so we risk finding ourselves with ephemeral and unattainable characters as role models. It is a reinterpretation of Carlo Crivelli’s Polyptych of Sant’Emidio (1473), in which each character embodies a legend (Slavic or Greek) or a deity (Etruscan, Sumerian, Egyptian, or Ancient Roman).

Polyptych of Hypocrisies – Oil on board, 2018, 160×160 cm

The composition with its panels and lunette is inspired by the façade of an 11th-century church, once frescoed and hence known as the “Poor Man’s Bible.” Each panel features several Loreto tattoos (religious symbols beloved by ancient visitors to the Holy House of Loreto), which are linked to the meaning of the respective tarot card.
